Endless mixtapes and atmospheric soundtracks echoed in his head on the playground and during long car journeys. That is where Jan D'Haene (born in 1985) found his early start as a creator. After the loss of his brother, he taught himself to play the trumpet and keyboards. This development gave purpose to his emotions. This is how his intuitive approach to music, which he himself cautiously calls art brut, arose.

In search of the right notes, Jan wanders down various paths in music. Inspiring trips to New Orleans or retreats in Nice, where he discovered Lars Fredrikson, among others, each left their mark. Key figures in music and theatre, such as Rudy Reunes, Bart Maris, Alain Platel and Niels Van Heertum, inspire him in his current and future movements and creations. As a maker in music and sound art, Jan attaches great importance to his vision of life, with humanity and nature as his driving forces.

His path has led to collaborations with Alain Platel/NTGent, Victoria Deluxe and Toneelhuis, where he contributed to theatre projects and documentaries. Today, he looks ahead to new trajectories with visual artist Mark Manders and cellist Benjamin Glorieux, alongside the development of his own sound installations Woven Sound and Air of Hope.

Eindeloze mixtapes en atmosferische soundtracks weerklonken in zijn hoofd op de speelplaats en tijdens verre autoritten. Daar vond Jan D’Haene (°1985) zijn vroege start als maker. Na het verlies van zijn broer verdiepte hij zich als autodidact in trompet en toetsen. Deze ontwikkeling gaf richting aan zijn emoties. Zo ontstond zijn intuïtieve benadering van muziek die hij zelf voorzichtig art brut noemt.

Op zoek naar de juiste noten, dwaalt Jan over diverse paden in de muziek. Inspirerende trips naar New Orleans of retraites in Nice, om er onder meer Lars Fredrikson te ontdekken, kennen allemaal hun waarde. Sleutelfiguren in muziek en theater, zoals Rudy Reunes, Bart Maris, Alain Platel en Niels Van Heertum, inspireren hem in zijn huidige en toekomstige bewegingen en creaties.
